Build Skills

Individuals enter the program for a variety of reasons. Some seek stability and routine in their lives, often as a stepping stone towards going back to work. Others seek to be a part of a community where they can focus on their wellness and recovery within a supportive environment, enjoying the social interaction that can be found here. Consumers entering the Day Program hope to maximize their potential and develop the skills and self-confidence to achieve the goals that he or she sets.
Through active discussion, consumers are led by seasoned therapists in covering a variety of psychosocial and educational topics. A key part of their learning focuses on consumers’ own uniquely designed treatment plans. Monday mornings start out with “Goal Setting”, a group devoted to reviewing the progress one hopes to make, and pinpointing what smaller steps can be taken to reach personal success. Follow-up comes on Fridays with “Goal Review.” In this session, consumers reflect upon the steps they have taken throughout the week towards meeting the goals they have set.
The “Building Skills” component of the McClendon Center’s programming includes other aspects of life skills education as well. Through groups such as Action for Personal Choice, Health and Wellness, and Navigating Life, consumers discuss, question, and learn about topics that they can apply to their own lives. Consumers can walk away from each group, better prepared to be proactive with their recovery.
